The hospital provides medical services to the city&#8217;s 110,000 residents by offering a comprehensive health care system: short stay, follow-up and rehabilitation, and long-term care. The hospital consists of 5 facilities with a total area of 280,000 sq.m. and offers 2,000 beds and additional special services, such as operating rooms, and intensive care units.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to careful and diligent management, the hospital has an excellent financial performance and is the leading university hospital in France. This gives it the possibility for large investments, especially for its architectural and technical systems.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Marchal, Director of Poitiers University Hospital, said: \u201cThanks to our positive financial results, we can innovate and invest in the most advanced and highest performing systems. We are one of the two University Hospitals in France that comply with the ISO 50001 standard in terms of energy efficiency.\u201d He adds: &#8220;We are committed to innovation and improving our technical systems such as our air conditioning system.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The hospital has started an energy efficiency improvement project as part of ISO 50001 certification and implemented an investment plan to renovate the air conditioning system.<br \/>\nWith the goal of reducing the overall energy consumption of the space by 10% and a payback period of approximately 5 years, the technical consultant replaced the two 30-year-old chillers with a much more efficient chiller.<\/p>\n<p>The new air conditioning system at the Poitiers hospital is based on the 1 megawatt TECS2 HFO series chiller from the Climaveneta brand of Mitsubishi Electric. The unit has a Turbocor compressor and saves energy, especially at some loads. Additionally, the TECS2 chiller has a smaller energy footprint compared to any screw compressor chiller. This allowed hospital officials to place the chiller outside, directly above the engine room, saving space and facilitating maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>David Martineau, Director of Works &amp; Services at Herv\u00e9 Thermique, says: \u201cThe main limitation for this project was the lack of space in the engine room. We had to create a 3D model to optimize the piping and equipment layout for maintenance purposes.
